NO CURSE CAN REST ON A CHILD OF GOD

NO CURSE CAN REST ON A CHILD OF GOD

“You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the One who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world” 1JOHN 4:4

Somebody wrote the following to me:

“ … Can you please tell me more about the writing which talks about God who will curse people to the third and fourth generation?”

I must first begin by putting something right. As far as I know there is no part in the Word where we read that our Lord will curse people into their third and fourth generation.

However there is, if I have it right, four sections where our Lord says that He will punish into the third and fourth generation and there is a very big difference, between punish and curse.

I quote the well-known example and then I will quote from, for me personally, the best translation of the Bible in Afrikaans, namely the NLV (New Life Version).

EXO 20:5  “Do not worship them or work for them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God. I punish the children, even the great-grandchildren, for the sins of their fathers who hate Me.”

Certainly there is no section which says or even, according to my opinion, suggests that our Lord would curse someone into their third or fourth generation.

I see it this way:
If our Lord wanted to punish someone, that person has a problem, but he can overcome the problem, through true remorse and asking our Lord for forgiveness for his transgression, but if our Lord was to curse you, you have, as I see it, literally an immense and fiery problem, because then, to put it that way, hell is your fate.

With the rest of this person’s writing in my mind, I think that he/she in fact is questioning if a family curse can rest on a child of our Lord.

Let me quickly say something about the so called family curse.  In other words, let me give you an example of one way of how you, for example, can bring a family curse upon you and your generations to come:

If I, for example, hate people of a different colour or language and live my life accordingly, I have, to put it that way, that hate curse upon me and because my children have me as a role model, the chances are good that they will also have that hate curse hanging over them and then it will live in their hearts and it is just one of many curses which a person can bring upon him-/herself and can carry it over to his/her following generations.

If someone maybe thinks that I misunderstand this “punishment into the third and fourth generations” which some people call God’s curse, and that our Lord from His side may punish people into the third and fourth generation, I refer to the following:

DEU24:16  Parents are not to be put to death for their children, nor children put to death for their parents; each will die for their own sin.

From this it is very clear to me.  Our Lord will not punish my children for my sins, but I can, through the way I live my life, through my example, or something which I have done to them, something which I pass on to them which later manifest in their lives as a curse.

The manner and according to me, the only way to truly be able to remove a so called family or any other curse, is to accept Jesus Christ as Redeemer and Saviour.

For this reason – if you have truly accepted Jesus as your Lord and Saviour, you are then a new being.  In other words, you are now a new person. Jesus, if you allow Him, take all these ugly things, or ‘curses’ if you want to call it, away.

2COR 5:17  “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”

Whatever this so called curse is or from who it may have come from, which exists according to you, does not exist anymore.
Now that you have accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour, no curse will, or whatever you want to call it, have power of any kind over you because whatever it may be, if it is at all anything, it must firstly elude (get past) Christ and you can see that this is totally impossible, because Jesus is in control of your life.

Therefore, rejoice! – For we have accepted Jesus as our LORD and Saviour:

GAL 2:20  I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

Do you know, also not only from what you read in Exodus 20:5 and in a few other places in the Word, are no more appropriate to you, because Jesus also literally demolished it, concerning His followers, at Golgotha:

ROM 8:1  Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus,

In summary:

No kind of curse can rest on a child of our Lord or whatever way you want to say it.

satan himself or one of his henchman – like those that according to my personal opinion are religious charlatans who go around and left and right want to free Jesus’s followers on this or that curse which then extensively is on them or one of their possessions, if they come to you and want to ‘free you’, then you rebuke them in the Name of Jesus Christ because you remember:

1JOHN 4:4  “You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the One who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.”
